FAQs
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is a process that helps you identify and achieve your personal goals. Life coaching helps you figure out what you want to achieve in life and develop a plan to get there by overcoming obstacles that are preventing you from achieving your goals. It consists of steps to help you identify and reframe your thoughts and attitudes, break negative habits, acquire a new mindset, and take action to achieve your maximum potential!
Who is a life coach?
A life coach is a certified and trained expert, serving as a trusted mentor to help you identify and uncover what keeps you from reaching your fullest potential. With a life coach, you form a one-on-one relationship that provides a supportive and non-judgmental space to help you change or create what you want for your life.
What is the role of a life coach?
A life coach’s primary role is to counsel and encourage clients through personal challenge, guiding clients to reach their ultimate goals. A life coach provides strategies and activities to move you in a positive, life-altering direction, walking with you through life improvements.
Who sees a life coach?
People from all walks of life work with life coaches to attain their goals. Working with a life coach is not limited to any type of person but is best for those who want to change their situation, change their mindset, and take the initiative to change their life. People who work with a life coach are committed to a more fulfilled life and are willing to do the work needed to get there.
Why do people see a life coach?
Many people seek out life coaches for guidance in navigating a significant life change. In plenty of cases, however, people turn to life coaches simply for help in building a happier, more meaningful life.
You may want to change in any number of ways:
-
You feel lost
-
You're letting fear hold you back
-
You think you're not good enough
-
You have self-destructive habits
-
You want to be more decisive
-
You can't seem to focus
-
You need better time management
-
You're facing a major transition
Can’t I just do this myself?
Life coaching can take you above and beyond your own personal limitations. Often, people try to achieve their greatest potential, but don’t even realise what stands in their way. Or give up. A life coach can offer an unbiased and objective perspective to help you realise your patterns and habits and teach you ways to change these. Most people are more efficient when working with a life coach, more successful in changing their thought processes and actions as they move forward to realise their potential.
What happens in a life coaching session?
Sessions are tailored to the client and will vary based on individual needs. To start, we will discuss what you are committed to accomplishing through our work together and we will create a plan to achieve your goals. Periodically, I will give you assignments to help direct your progress. We will work together to acknowledge obstacles, explore alternate perspectives, and celebrate successes. At the conclusion of each session, we will revisit your goals and evaluate the next steps to achieve these results.
How is life coaching different from therapy?
Life coaches identify and describe current problematic behaviours so the client can work to modify them. Therapists analyse a client’s past as a tool for understanding present behaviours. In other words, therapists focus on ‘why’ certain behavioural patterns occur, while coaches work on ‘how’ to work toward a goal.
How long do people work with a life coach?
To experience the effectiveness of a life coaching programme, I suggest clients make an initial three-month commitment. At the end of the three months, we will evaluate progress and discuss options for continued coaching.
Is life coaching confidential?
What we discuss will be held in confidence and not shared with others. However, our discussions are not privileged for legal purposes. The privilege of confidentiality that exists for clergy, therapists and attorneys is not granted to coaching professionals. That said, life coaching is a confidential process, and your personal information will be protected.
